Cycling the Llŷn Peninsula

Explore quiet country lanes, coastal roads and some of North Wales' finest cycling routes.

The Llŷn Peninsula is one of North Wales' best-kept secrets for cyclists. Quiet country lanes, spectacular coastal roads, charming fishing villages and rewarding climbs combine to create some of the most enjoyable cycling in Wales.

Whether you're looking for a relaxed morning ride, a challenging day in the saddle or a leisurely stop at one of the peninsula's many cafés and beaches, Tyn y Big Estate provides the perfect base. With secure private parking, peaceful surroundings and Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park less than an hour away, there's something here for every rider.

Aberdaron Coastal Loop (Moderate)

Distance: 21 miles (Approx. 2½–3½ hours)

This beautiful circular ride showcases the quieter western side of the Llŷn Peninsula, passing through peaceful farmland before arriving at the charming seaside village of Aberdaron.

Rolling hills give way to sweeping sea views, while quiet lanes make this one of the peninsula's most enjoyable routes. Take time to wander around Aberdaron's cafés and beach before beginning the return journey through unspoilt countryside.

This is one of our favourite rides for combining spectacular scenery with a relaxed pace.

Nefyn & Porthdinllaen Loop (Moderate)

Distance: 23 miles (Approx. 3 hours)

A rewarding ride through the northern Llŷn Peninsula, this route combines countryside lanes with magnificent coastal views before reaching the National Trust village of Porthdinllaen.

Leave your bike for a short walk to the famous Ty Coch Inn, regularly recognised as one of the world's most beautiful beachside pubs. The return journey continues through picturesque Welsh villages and peaceful farmland.

Perfect for cyclists who enjoy combining great riding with memorable lunch stops.

Abersoch to Llanbedrog (Easy)

Distance: 8 miles return (Approx. 1–1½ hours)

Ideal for families and leisure cyclists, this shorter route follows quiet roads linking two of the peninsula's most popular seaside villages. Enjoy beautiful coastal views, browse independent shops in Abersoch or stop for coffee overlooking the beach before returning through peaceful countryside.

A wonderful ride for anyone looking to enjoy the coast without tackling longer distances.

Hell's Mouth Coastal Ride (Moderate)

Distance: 16 miles (Approx. 2 hours)

This scenic route passes close to Porth Neigwl (Hell's Mouth), one of North Wales' most dramatic beaches.

Rolling roads offer wonderful views across Cardigan Bay, while the surrounding countryside provides a peaceful escape from busier tourist areas. It's a particularly enjoyable ride during spring and autumn when the roads are quieter.

Take time to stop and admire the vast coastline before continuing your journey.

The Southern Peninsula Explorer (Challenging)

Distance: 35 miles (Approx. 4–5 hours)

One of the peninsula's classic road rides, this route explores the quieter southern coastline through traditional Welsh villages, open farmland and spectacular sea views.

Long, gentle climbs are rewarded with breathtaking descents and panoramic vistas across Cardigan Bay.

Ideal for experienced cyclists looking for a rewarding full-day ride.

Lôn Eifion Cycleway (Easy)

Distance: Up to 12½ miles each way (Flexible)

For a completely different experience, the traffic-free Lôn Eifion Cycleway follows the route of a former railway line between Caernarfon and Bryncir.

The largely flat route makes it perfect for families, leisure cyclists and anyone looking for a relaxed day on two wheels. Along the way you'll enjoy mountain views, woodland and peaceful countryside.

An excellent option if you're looking for a gentle ride away from the roads.

Pwllheli & Marina Ride (Easy)

Distance: 12 miles (Approx. 1½ hours)

A pleasant ride linking Tyn y Big Estate with the traditional market town of Pwllheli. Explore the marina, browse local shops or enjoy lunch overlooking the harbour before cycling back through quiet country lanes.

Perfect for combining cycling with sightseeing and a leisurely afternoon.

The Full Llŷn Peninsula Challenge (Challenging)

Distance: 50–60 miles (Approx. 5–7 hours)
